Rule number-one: Ride every day. Rule number two: If you can’t, store your Jetson such that it remains ride-ready and in tip-top shape for when you’re ready to roll again.
Read on for our recommendations on how and where to store your Jetson.
Prep It
Prior to putting your Jetson away, get it ready for its rest time.
Remove the batteries
If your Jetson
has removable batteries, take them out prior to storage. That includes:
- Removable rechargeable batteries (such as those in the Haze or the Knight)
- Removable replaceable batteries in the main frame (which power the lights in some of our kick scooters) or in independently powered accessories such as rear bike lights. (Then follow the specific storage recommendations from the battery manufacturer.)
Charge It
If your Jetson has a rechargeable battery (removable or not), charge it to at least 75% prior to putting it in storage. (That includes e-bikes, hoverboards, and e-scooters.)
Fold It
If you have an e-bike, e-scooter, or kick scooter that folds, do so: It’ll be easier to stash out of the way if it’s more compact.
Separate Its Components
If you’re storing one of our multi-component JetKarts, separate the kart from the hoverboard.
Place It
Whether your Jetson will be resting for three days or three months, choose a spot with:
1. The right temperature
- Any Jetson that has a built-in battery, electrical components, or motor should be stored in places where the air temperature falls between 50 and 95°F (10°C to 35°C). (When winter kicks in, bring your Jetson indoors!)
- Jetson without any electrical components, including some of our kids’ kick scooters and JetKarts, can handle a wider range of temperatures, including air temperatures that drop below freezing.
- Never store your Jetson near hotspots (ovens, radiators, and the like)—especially those that also have flames, such as grills, fire pits, and fireplaces.
2. A dry environment
Never leave your Jetson in an area where it could be exposed to water or moisture. That includes:
- Open-air spaces where it could get hit by rain or snow.
- Areas of high humidity.
- Places susceptible to flooding
Water can seep into small spots, which could lead to rust or do damage to electrical components.
3. Shelter & cover
Dust can clog up mechanical systems — and doesn’t mix well with electrical ones, either. That’s true for debris, too. Consider covering your Jetson to protect it from both.
Maintain It
If your Jetson runs off of a rechargeable battery, you’ll need to do a little work to keep that battery in the best of health. Charge, power on, and (if possible) briefly run your product every 30 days (if it has a lithium-ion battery) or every 90 days (if it has a lead-acid one). (Need a reminder of which yours has? You can find that info in your model’s user manual.)
